Scottish "Scot-Grot" Walk ... a fun day ... full of mud and water and sunshine
We had a wonderful sunny day for our Scot-Grot walk in Balloch. Dogs were muddy within minutes but no one was worried as we knew they would enjoy a swim in Loch Lomond towards the end of the walk. Afterwards we were dining al-fresco with the dogs at the Balloch Country House Hotel. Pooches were tired but enjoyed tit-bits from the table from willing owners. A fun and enjoyable day.

Lagotto Storage Disease ... UPDATE (Feb 2015)
Dr Lohi' and Dr Leeb's research groups in the University of Helsinki and University of Bern have made a breakthrough in a new neurological condition in Lagotto Romagnolo breed known as 'Lagotto Storage Disease' and have discovered a new disease-causing mutation. The discovery is being prepared for a scientific publication. The free testing has now been discontinued but there is a commercial test being developed by Genoscoper which should be available later in 2015. Meantime the test is still available, for a fee, at the University of Bern. More information can be found here.
More information about Lagotto Storage Disease and about the research that has taken place so far is available here. And also stories from the owners and breeders who have recently been confirmed as having LSD.

Lagotto Romagnolo to transfer to the Breed Register (Oct 14)
Following a structured campaign by the Lagotto Romagnolo Association (LRA), we are delighted to announce that our application to the UK Kennel Club, to have our breed transferred from the AV Import Register to the Breed Register, has been approved with effect from 1 April 2015. Therefore Crufts in March 2015 is the last time we will be in AV Import Register and thereafter our breed can compete for the Best of Breed, Best of Group and are on equal terms in the Best of Show Ring. Further details will be published soon as to what this means generally for the Breed.

LRA - we have achieved official UK Kennel Club Recognition
The Committee of the LRA is very pleased to announce that we have now achieved official recognition from the UK Kennel Club to operate as a ‘licensed’ club. To most of our members this will mean very little change, but it is an immense procedural accomplishment, achieved without a hitch in under a year.
Now the hard work begins for the Committee, who will be taking this tremendous opportunity to move the breed forward in the UK, by supporting a move from the Import Register and onto the all breeds register and to involve all our global LRA members. We also intend to keep you all well informed on all things Lagotto Romagnolo, particularly in regards to health issues. Obviously, the Committee would ask for your continued support throughout the coming year, and especially thank you all for your contributions on health news which only serves to inform all Lagotto owners worldwide for the improvement of the breed. This is a very exciting time for the LRA and for the Lagotto in the UK.Please keep watching the website regularly and our FaceBook page for future news.
