“Archie” … Scotland, UK
Archibald Hamish was the first male Lagotto Romagnolo to come to Scotland in November 2008 and so he was given a very Scottish name. He lives close to Loch Lomond and so swimming is a daily activity for him and he certainly does live up to the breed example .. as being a waterdog!
I decided to enter Archie in dog shows to introduce him to the dog community and get the breed known better here in Scotland. He has been quite successful and clearly enjoys the atmosphere of the shows because his tails constantly wags and he often ‘chats’ to the judge! He is relatively well known in the Scottish show circuit, with folks often passing by and saying ‘hi’ to him.
Recently I decided to train him as a Pets As Therapy and he successfully qualified for their programme in August 2013 and we now visit Mental Health units, Nursing homes and Children’s hospices on a regular basis.
He enjoys holidays throughout the UK … and takes to new situations and people with ease. He has a website if you would like more information about what he gets up to … www.archielagotto.weebly.com

Fit for Function … where the breed is
The Kennel Club are currently considering how best the breed in the UK can demonstrate their working abilities and achieve the required KC “Fit for Function” criteria. Currently the breed is classified in the Utility Gundog sub-group. One of the options being considered is that the breed may well be required to work to the regulations applicable to Spaniels rather than to those relating to Retrievers. To this end and to make absolutely sure the ultimate decision is the right one, an informal assessment day was organised at the end of May where a few simple working tests were observed by members of the KC Field Trials Sub-Committee. The outcome is not yet know, but we will keep you posted. |
