Hip Dysplasia
Because the Lagotto is a light framed dog, there is no evidence to suggest that there is an inherent problem in the breed. Sometimes these conditions can be caused by injury or environmental factors, including poor diet. However, breeding from dogs with high scores will increase the risk of it occurring in future generations and causing subsequent arthritic changes in the affected dog.
When tested, each hip is scored and reported as (for example) 5:5 = 10.
The lowest score is 0(zero) and the maximum 106.
Dogs with high scores will often demonstrate lameness at an early age.

Read the leaflet about Hip Dysplasia in Dogs, which is produced by the British Veterinary Assocation (BVA).
Existing BVA test results in the UK indicate that the Breed Mean Score is 12, however only a small percentage of the UK population have ever been scored, so this can only be used as a guide line when discussing test results with breeders.
