My first forage into dog ownership as an adult was a rescue Lagotto male. Lui was 3 and for various reasons had left a home that had trained him well as a pet dog. However, he had issues with other dogs and some people. He was a loving pet. Encouraged we took on a bitch puppy from the Emmroche stable.
Zucca is a lively, high spirited dog. She tolerated showing, coming 3rd in her class at the French Championships, but it clearly was not her thing. Well advised by EJ Laroche, the breeder, we tried agility. Zucca loves it, and because we both started as novices we are still learning the ropes. We have won a few classes and continue to learn every year, as Zucca is just 4 we have many more years ahead. Her mother is still competing at the highest level aged 10!
Sadly Lui, passed away and so hearing of a second Emmroche litter we decided to add a dog puppy to the household. Romo, is a kind and gentle boy, with a strong desire to please. He liked showing and so had a season competing. He qualified for Crufts at his first outing and came fourth in his class in 2013. He too, is training for agility and shows promise, although as a boy he has to jump large and so will have his work cut out against the collies. At just two, this will be his first season competing.
I am lucky to be based in an area rich in agility clubs, competition and trainers and so can give some advice there. I home groom and clip and I have a family with two boys and so the dogs have to fit in with school, work and all the noise and madness that normal family life brings. I am based in the southern West Midlands.
