Scenrwork is a recognised canine discipline that involves teaching your dog to detect a specific odour, such as clove, gun oil, truffle oil, catnip or Kong. Once a dog understands that the game is to locate and identify the target odour, articles can be hidden in different locations. The more experienced you and your dog become working together in the search, the more challenging the environments and the hides can become.
Scentwork for fun has many benefits, including to form a stronger bond between owner and canine, to build a dog’s confidence and also to provide mental stimulation and controlled physical exercise for your dog. There are several bodies that organise testing trials and courses for dog trainers to achieve a recognised qualification for providing scentwork service to pet owners.
